Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Association in Crawley, England

F.S.K.A. is a non-political association which strives to promote a high standard of training in Shotokan Karate, whose chief instructor is Shihan Kenneth Funakoshi 9th Dan. The Crawley dojo is run by Sensei Ron Silverthorne 7th Dan at Crawley Leisure Centre. Sensei teaches all classes and all grades himself. He has a large number of black belts in the school who also assist. Sensei Silverthorne has been a committed karate-ka for many years and tries to lay down a firm foundation for his students not only in the teaching of karate, but also how the principles of karate can be followed throughout one's life. Under his tution the younger members of the school gain confidence, develop their skills of concentration, co-ordination and communication, not only with their own peer group but with the teenagers and adults in the school. Many students make karate a lifetime path, gaining inner strength that helps them through the ups and downs of life. Sensei never ceases to amaze his students with his enthusiasm and knowledge of the Martial Arts. He has trained extensively with many of the World's top masters. Whilst in Maylasia he trained under Grand Master Chew Choo Soot. Sensei holds 2nd Dan in Judo under Sensei Kasura Abe and 7th Dan in Shotokan Karate under Shihan Kenneth Funakoshi. He trained in weapons with Shihan Fumio Demura, Shihan Tadashi Yamashita and Shihan Takayuki Kubota. The Crawley dojo caters for the young and the not so young and offers a friendly and enjoyable environment from a commited instructor. The F.S.K.A. is affiliated to the Karate England and all students are registered with Karate England. (KarateEngland is the only Sports Council Recognised Governing Body for Karate in England).
